Tamayo Perry, 49, has died after being killed by what is thought to have been a shark attack.
Emergency Medical Services in Honolulu said Tamayo’s body was found on Sunday with several bite marks on it.
Perry played the lead role in several big hits, such as Disney’s Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides.
In the past, he was in the hit movie Blue Crush (2002) and had a part in Hawaii Five-0.
A friend wrote, “I just heard an old friend Tamayo Perry died from a shark attack on Oahu at Goat Island.” Tons of people have paid tribute to the star. What a sad story. He had a heart of gold.
Tamayo loved surfing.
Perry was also a lifeguard and pipeline surfer for a long time.
At the time of his tragic death, he was giving surf lessons.
In a statement, Acting Ocean Safety Chief Kurt Lager said, “Tamayo Perry was a lifeguard loved by all, well-known on the North Shore, and a professional surfer known all over the world.”
What happened to Tamayo?
Tamayo was surfing off of Goat Island, which is also called Mokuauia and is near Laie, Hawaii. Laie is 32 miles north of Honolulu.
The Star-Advertiser was told that he was found at 1:00 p.m. and that lifeguards took him to shore on a jet ski.
